Summary

It's one hex of an attraction in this romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Jessica Clare。

When Reggie Johnson answers a job ad in the paper, she's astonished to find that she's not applying to work at her favorite card game, Spellcraft: The Magicking。 Instead, she's applying to be an actual familiar for an actual witch。 As in, real magic。

The new job has a few perks - great room and board, excellent pay, and she's apprenticing to a powerful witch。 Sure, the witch is a bit eccentric。 And sure, there was that issue with the black cat Reggie would prefer to forget about。 The biggest problem, however, is warlock Ben Magnus, her employer's nephew and the most arrogant, insufferable, maddening man to ever cast a spell。

Reggie absolutely hates him。 He's handsome, but he's also bossy and irritating and orders her around。 Ben's butt might look great in a crystal ball vision, but that's as far as it goes。 But when someone with a vendetta targets the household, she finds herself working with Ben to break a deadly curse。 Apparently, when they're not fighting like cats and dogs, things get downright。。。bewitching。

Damn irresistible。 I simply loved everything about it; the setting, magical components, whimsical situations, cursed cat, bonding & whatnot。 There was so much pining & sarcastic banter that made my heartache。 I loved the whole meddling aunt vibes & the whole setup to get Reggie & Ben together! It was so childish & funny at the same time。This book was a comfort & I can't wait for the sequel (hopefully it's Penny & Wil's book)。 。。。more

okay I fucking love a good witchy romcom, definitely my fave kind of books。 enemies to lovers, grumpy and sunshine, black cats, and more。 I didn’t know it might be a reylo fanfic (until reading other reviews after I finished it) bc I just saw it in the book store and bought it without looking it up on here lol, I honestly don’t care or give a fuck at all though about that detail bc it’s a good book either way。 It has a good plot with some of my favorite characters and very happy with this book, okay I fucking love a good witchy romcom, definitely my fave kind of books。 enemies to lovers, grumpy and sunshine, black cats, and more。 I didn’t know it might be a reylo fanfic (until reading other reviews after I finished it) bc I just saw it in the book store and bought it without looking it up on here lol, I honestly don’t care or give a fuck at all though about that detail bc it’s a good book either way。 It has a good plot with some of my favorite characters and very happy with this book, you should definitely read it 。。。more

Go Hex Yourself, a romance novel that grabbed my attention from the first。 Unusual。 Romance novels are always a mixed bag for me。 I enjoy reading some, especially those with a tinge of snark and a lot of humor。 Admittedly, I’m not always keen on fantasy romances, but reading the info before this book came out, I was intrigued。 It sounded like a darn lot of fun, so I requested the advanced copy and eagerly awaited my moment to read。When I “cracked open the spine” on my eBook copy, I found delight Go Hex Yourself, a romance novel that grabbed my attention from the first。 Unusual。 Romance novels are always a mixed bag for me。 I enjoy reading some, especially those with a tinge of snark and a lot of humor。 Admittedly, I’m not always keen on fantasy romances, but reading the info before this book came out, I was intrigued。 It sounded like a darn lot of fun, so I requested the advanced copy and eagerly awaited my moment to read。When I “cracked open the spine” on my eBook copy, I found delight awaited my every page swipe to the next。 The initial setup made me giggle, being married to a man who thoroughly enjoys playing Magic: The Gathering, a card game clearly riffed off in the concept of the main character’s expectations as she heads into the, shall we call it, unusual job interview。This book kept me entertained and intrigued, from the giggle-inducing first page to the last, the fun twists on romantic tropes to vivid world-building and visceral settings。 I loved every twist and turn, every silly, bizarre, and funny coincidence, and the oddity of the family in question。It’s a first-person narrative, bouncing from perspective to perspective each chapter, giving a deeper, more intimate look into the world of Reggie, Lisa, Ben, and the rest as they work their way through spell craft and magic – even if it’s not what Reggie expects when she shows up for the job interview at the brownstone that fateful morning。If you enjoy a good rom-com and a witchy tale, you’ll definitely enjoy Go Hex Yourself by Jessica Clare。 Be prepared to read all night, though, as you’ll have a hard time putting this delightful tale of love and magic down。 。。。more

2。5 stars。 this book was cute and had an interesting magic system, although it seemed to me to be inadequately explained。 it opened so strong but the ending was lacklustre - the conflict was resolved too easily and the hero was too much of a deranged sadboy for my taste。 still 。 sweet enough for a quick mindless read。

To be 100% honest, the book started really well。 I absolutely loved how the author managed to create a whole new world and rules around wizards。 It was not only original but also creative。 Also, creating the atmosphere for a book is difficult so it was a pleasant surprise to read her descriptions!"When my aunt is like this, she’s impossible。 No wonder Chicago burned in 1871。 She was too stubborn to put out her fire spell then, and she’s too stubborn to get rid of the girl waiting in her study no To be 100% honest, the book started really well。 I absolutely loved how the author managed to create a whole new world and rules around wizards。 It was not only original but also creative。 Also, creating the atmosphere for a book is difficult so it was a pleasant surprise to read her descriptions!"When my aunt is like this, she’s impossible。 No wonder Chicago burned in 1871。 She was too stubborn to put out her fire spell then, and she’s too stubborn to get rid of the girl waiting in her study now。" I mean, how cool is explaining world history by creating a whole new story involving wizards? That being said, I didn't feel the connection between the main characters nor did I feel the attraction toward each other。 Ultimately, I think I didn't get why they went from hate to love。I'm not a big fan of dual pov, either。 So there's that, too。 。。。more

This was SO cute and fluffy and dear lord, it’s so nice to read a modern romance novel that does NOT rely on the miscommunication trope (the worst trope, I make the rules here and it’s the worst one)。My only critique is that the resolution to the main “mystery” plot point was kind of quick, but, in all honesty, it was nice to read a book with very little angst。 Give me another!!!

Go Hex Yourself was such a fun read! I loved the relationships between Aunt Dru, Reggie, and Ben。 I was hooked from the very beginning! This has all of the tropes that we contemporary romance readers love。 There's an age gap romance, there's grumpy/sunshine, multiple points of view, and there's definitely the "touch her and you'll die" trope。 It hits all of the major boxes。 Ben is a swoon worthy book boyfriend that everyone will fall in love with。 He's so thoughtful and a big teddy bear underneat Go Hex Yourself was such a fun read! So, I liked this。 I really did。 The bulk of the story was a great grumpy/sunshine Halloween Hallmark type love story。 I loved the witchy vibes and the whole magical system。 So keep that in mind。 But, for me, the steamy bits felt out of place。 Not that it needed to be closed door, but I felt like they were the total opposite tone from the rest of the book。 I almost didn't believe that the characters in the sexy scenes were the same people in the rest of the book。 So for me, the story felt disjoin So, I liked this。 I really did。 The bulk of the story was a great grumpy/sunshine Halloween Hallmark type love story。 I loved the witchy vibes and the whole magical system。 So keep that in mind。 But, for me, the steamy bits felt out of place。 Not that it needed to be closed door, but I felt like they were the total opposite tone from the rest of the book。 I almost didn't believe that the characters in the sexy scenes were the same people in the rest of the book。 So for me, the story felt disjointed。Thank you to Netgalley, Berkley, and the author for the eARC in exchange for my review。 。。。more

Yeah, this was garbage。 The main characters were so annoying。 Reggie is a “control freak” and has ocd。 I don’t see how she’s controlling at all but we do get endless descriptions of her tidying and organising stuff in this ancient house that nobody asked her to do and that only makes things harder for her employer。 She can’t read the titles of these magical books but takes it upon herself to reorganise a 1000 year old library。 Then she makes a mess and leaves。 I found her reluctance to believe i Yeah, this was garbage。 The main characters were so annoying。 Reggie is a “control freak” and has ocd。 I don’t see how she’s controlling at all but we do get endless descriptions of her tidying and organising stuff in this ancient house that nobody asked her to do and that only makes things harder for her employer。 She can’t read the titles of these magical books but takes it upon herself to reorganise a 1000 year old library。 Then she makes a mess and leaves。 I found her reluctance to believe in magic annoying as well。 It dragged on for too long when we knew that she would come around and discover she’s a witch herself anyway。 Ben, a 500 year old warlock, is a “grumpy” old man。 “He’s really quite smart and lovely。 He’s just lonely。 He’s not good with people。 Never has been。 His parents are to blame for that。” He’s had 500 years to get over it?? He’s lonely because he’s not a good person。 He acts like a child and has been straight up mean to Reggie since the start but she hears this and her heart just melts for the poor guy。 I’m all for the hate to love trope but this is not it。 He’s in a position of power, constantly threatens to fire her, watches her while she’s alone without her consent, feels disappointed when he sees she isn’t masturbating。 Nothing about him is remotely charming。 For her part, she also watches him while he’s jerking off without him knowing but at least it wasn’t on purpose and she has the decency to come clean about it。 All of this is passed off has a humorous situation which is also my issue with this book。 The “funny” bits aren’t remotely funny。 Her gay best friend sends her nudes that his boyfriend sent him and its only a mild annoyance to her。 Bet if it was a girl that wouldn’t be okay。 The cat, Maurice, is a human man trapped in a cat’s body who’s constantly rubbing up on her, following her around in the shower, sleeping in her bed and when she finds out she’s outraged for one second before he mollifies her by saying he told the cat to stay away from her。 What a gentleman。 The only reason I kept reading this was because I wanted to see how much worse it could get。 And it kept getting worse until the end。 。。。more

Confession: I was almost trying to convince myself that this book wasn’t actually 5 stars for me。 I don’t read a ton of steamy books and this had the witchy twist to it, and for some reason the fact that I loved it so much made me feel a little foolish? Really enjoyed this, with some very big caveats:1) would have loved it if the editor had encouraged the author to remove maybe a dozen or two of the ENDLESS mentions of Reggie's freckles。 Seriously I'm pretty sure they're mentioned at least 50 times。 As someone who has freckles this just struck me as kind of creepy, not cute? It's treated as a flirty interaction。 From a world-building standpoint in general it's considered fine in this world to watch each other secretly, and apparently everyone expects it because it's part of the social norms of these characters, but this scene just felt gross and not sexy at all。3) really f***ing tired of Romance that has the hero suddenly become creepily possessive once they get together。 It's like night and day -- first 70% of the book, Ben is adorable, then he flips into being this possessive creep。 He starts labeling literal body parts of Reggie as "mine", thinking about how he wants her to belong to him, enjoying marking her as "belonging to him" via hickies and a BRACELET OF SERVITUDE, reveling in jealousy like it's a positive trait, and just。。。 Can we not?
